The Division of General Internal Medicine consists of a team of general internal medicine physicians who are trained to care for a wide variety of adult medical problems both in the outpatient and inpatient settings. Academic physicians have special expertise in research, education, advocacy, administration and leadership. Our academic general internists work in a variety of positions, including major roles in internal medicine resident and medical student education, research, quality improvement, patient education and advocacy as well as administration. We provide high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Services

Faculty members in our division offer multidisciplinary clinical services in both our outpatient practices as well as local hospitals. We work closely with professionals from nursing, behavioral health, dietary, social work and case management. We specialize in preventative care and complex management of medical conditions. We communicate with other specialties in the community to provide high-quality medical care with the patient at the center.  Research in general internal medicine focuses on improving health care delivery and health outcomes for adults in our clinics and our community. Research focus areas include but are not limited to medical education in the simulation center, social determinants of health, diversity/equity/inclusion and justice, nutrition, hypertension, diabetes, COPD, cardiovascular and mental health.

The WMed Health Internal Medicine clinical services provide a broad spectrum of general well adult preventative care as well as acute visits for adults and complex, longitudinal care management and coordination. We are proud to be nationally recognized as a patient-centered medical home. Our model of care emphasizes care coordination and communication to best meet the needs of adults. In addition to providing excellent direct patient care, division faculty coordinate and supervise resident continuity clinics, ambulatory and community educational experiences, and medical student educational experiences at our clinical sites as well as both Ascension Health Borgess and Bronson Methodist Hospital.
