Events and Programs

The offices of Diversity and Inclusiveness and Health Equity and Community Affairs focus on developing anti-racist events designed to improve health equity, intergroup relations, recruitment, community engagement, diversity trainings, pathway programs, cultural celebrations workshops, and racial and ethnic minority panel discussions. These anti-racist events focus on issues and topics that encompass the intersectionality of diversity. Hence, the goals of these anti-racist events are to increase social justice advocacy at WMed and our affiliates delivering more equitable care to Southwest Michigan's racial and ethnic minority patient populations.

Black History Month Event: African American CEOs & Trailblazers for Major Health Systems

BNGAP Initiative

WMed is collaborating with Building the Next Generation of Academic Physicians (BNGAP) initiative. This organization focuses on exploring how research, educational, and service work not only makes you competitive for graduate school (medical, dentistry, nursing) but also helps you build a foundation for an academic career. It also helps transform research, educational, and service work to scholarship to enhance your competitiveness for graduate school. BNGAP develops and enhances your portfolio to be a more competitive applicant to health professional graduate school and academia. Lastly, it helps expand your network of graduate school faculty and role models.

Community Conversations

Community Conversations are held the first Thursday of each month by a network of community organization leaders from across Southwest Michigan. The events address topics such as gun violence and racism, among many other topics.

Courageous Conversations

Courageous Conversations are ongoing events hosted monthly. Each event highlights anti-racist goals and increases social justice advocacy at WMed and in the community.

Resident Showcase

The Resident Showcase is held annually in October. Prospective residents from across the country from underrepresented groups come together for a showcase of the various resident training programs offered at WMed.
