Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

As a prehospital-based subspecialty, we are committed to serve all patients in the community. Health equity is one of our medical school's strategic priorities. Our program strives to ensure diversity in trainee recruitment, selection, and retention through multiple mechanisms. We use a holistic recruitment, selection, and ranking process. What does "diversity" mean to us? Differences in race, ethnicity, ability, background, socioeconomic status, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin and more. We also educate our faculty and staff who participate in interviews on unconscious bias, illegal and unethical questioning during interviews, and interview questions that may introduce bias into the recruitment and selection process. Our institution genuinely values diversity and inclusiveness. The organization implements annual actions to enhance our commitment to diversity, including required annual education for faculty and residents focused on unconscious bias, as well as diversity and cultural sensitivity. We are committed to helping all of our fellows to feel that they are seen, heard and valued with our culture that embodies belonging as central to diversity, inclusion and equity.
