Welcome from the Department Chair
In the Department of Anesthesiology, we provide care for patients in a wide range of settings, including Ascension Borgess Hospital, Bronson Methodist Hospital, Bronson LakeView Hospital, Pennock Hospital, and the West Michigan Cancer Center. Together, we also care for patients at free-standing ambulatory surgery centers and pain clinics. Our department boasts more than 30 specialty-trained, board-certified anesthesiologists who are committed to quality patient care and the instruction of students and residents.
Our faculty work independently or, more commonly, as part of care teams comprised of anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, physician assistants, residents, and students. We provide a diverse environment for learning about anesthesiology.
At WMed, we integrate anesthesiology and pain management in our Foundations of Medicine curriculum. Our students have the opportunity to participate in a one-week elective in anesthesiology during their first two years of medical school, as well as two- or four-week electives during their fourth year.
