Warner Norcross + Judd LLP is partnering with the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine Innovation Center for a lunch-and-learn series designed to help technology startups be more successful in business.
The lunch-and-learn series will feature six different events throughout 2018 that focus on topics critical for business startups. Warner thought leaders in capital formation, venture capital, intellectual property, labor and employment, executive compensation, tax and other practice areas will lead each session.
“We are excited about this opportunity to partner with the WMed Innovation Center and connect with entrepreneurs in the Kalamazoo community,” said Josie Boucher, a partner at Warner who focuses her practice in corporate and securities law with an emphasis on representing emerging growth companies. “Warner is commited to providing client-focused, proactive legal and business counsel in the Kalamazoo community, and we view WMed Innovation Center as a valuable partner in that regard.”
The six sessions will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the WMedInnovation Center, 4717 Campus Drive, on the following dates:

- April 19: Financing Your Startup: Venture Capital Basics, Josie Boucher
- June 21: Intellectual Property for Startups, Catherine Collins
- July 19: Key Employment Issues for Startup Companies, Pam Enslen, Lou Rabaut
- Sept. 20: Equity Compensation for Startups, Justin Stemple, Loren Andrulis
- Nov. 8: Tax from Startups to Full-Fledged Companies, Matt Johnson
“It takes one skill set to develop innovative new technology – and quite another to run a successful business,” said Collins, a partner at Warner who concentrates her practice on intellectual property. “Our partnership for this lunch-and-learn series is designed to marry the two by helping the WMed Innovation Center in its mission to offer business plan assistance and entrepreneurial services by providing guidance for new and expanding businesses.”
TheWMed Innovation Center is designed to provide the support necessary for success to technology entrepreneurs in the earliest stages of development. The Innovation Center provides shared working space and thousands of square feet of dedicated laboratory and office space, allowing early stage technology companies to find the right kind of support at the right cost.
“The Warner entrepreneurial lunch-and-learn series is the most recent addition to the suite of programs offered at the Innovation Center and supported by community partners,” said Sandra Cochrane, assistant dean of the WMedInnovation Center. “Without the engagement of partners and sponsors like Warner, the Innovation Center would not be able to provide such specialized education and training to the entrepreneurial community in Southwest Michigan.”
