The medical school will welcome Kanakadurga Singer, MA, MD, in January as the featured speaker for Seminars in Investigative Medicine.
Dr. Singer’s presentation, “The influence of sex on obesity induced meta-inflammation,” is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in TBL 2 at the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus in downtown Kalamazoo. A pizza lunch from Jets will be provided for attendees.

Dr. Singer earned her MD degree and completed her pediatrics residency and pediatric endocrinology fellowship training at the University of Michigan. She then joined the University of Michigan faculty in 2012 in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology.
Dr. Singer’s research focus has been to understand the long-term and lifelong impacts of obesity on the immune system and sex differences in metabolic and inflammatory responses to high fat diet.
Seminars in Investigative Medicine is a research seminar series at WMed aimed at bringing together the community of investigators both within – and outside — the medical school.
