A physician who completed his residency training at the medical school in 2021 is the newest faculty member to join the Department of Psychiatry at WMU Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed).
Randall Kirk, DO, began his new role as an assistant professor and consultation liaison on December 15. Dr. Kirk graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. In 2017, he earned his DO degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
After medical school, Dr. Kirk spent the next four years in Kalamazoo where he completed his residency training at WMed. After residency, Dr. Kirk was a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and was the recipient of a faculty teaching award in 2025.
Prior to joining the faculty at WMed full-time, Dr. Kirk worked for four years at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center where he was a staff psychiatrist and, more recently, served as Chief of Psychiatry. Dr. Kirk also served as director of the VA’s resident outpatient clinic and site director for psychiatry residency training.
Dr. Kirk is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also certified as a Basic Life Support (BLS) provider and certified in Critical Incident Stress Management, among other certifications.
