At a time when patients are often waiting months for routine obstetric and gynecological appointments, the WMed Health OB/GYN clinic at 1000 Oakland Drive in Kalamazoo is ready to help patients catch up on important screenings quickly.

“Many people in our area are struggling to get appointments for routine gynecologic care and gynecologic problems,” said Carly Davis, MD, program director for WMed’s OB/GYN residency program. “At our clinic, we have availability to help patients catch up on their routine gynecologic screening quickly, and can also explore concerns about pain, bleeding, and hormone symptoms. High quality gynecologic ultrasound is also available in-office, which allows us to evaluate problems without significant delay.”

WMed Health’s OB/GYN clinic offers a variety of services including Pap testing, preventive well-woman exams, obstetric and gynecological ultrasounds, same-day placement of long-acting reversible contraception and timely evaluation of pelvic pain and abnormal menstrual bleeding, among other offerings.

Patients can often be seen within two weeks of scheduling an appointment and the practice is also able to provide urgent follow-up care within two business days after an emergency room visit, according to Holly Yettaw Luts, MD, division chief of the Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology at WMed.

“Screening tests are used for diagnosis of precancer, cancer, and infections so the ability to get screening in a timely fashion is important,” Dr. Luts said. “Does anything terrible happen if you delay a pap test by six months? Probably not. But when it comes to screening for sexually transmitted infections, early diagnosis can be the difference between treatment and cure without consequence versus loss of future fertility. For our patients who are having perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms, a delay in treatment by six months is a long time to suffer through hot flashes and night sweats. Timing matters.”
