WMed welcomes Lakshmi Sundaresan, MD, as newest faculty member in the Department of Family and Community Medicine

The medical school welcomed Lakshmi Sundaresan, MD, in September as the newest faculty member in the Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Dr. Sundaresan began her new role as an assistant professor on September 30. She is an alumna of the University of Chicago where she graduated in 2012 with three bachelor’s degrees.

Later, in 2015, Dr. Sundaresan began the pursuit of her MD degree at Rush Medical College in Chicago. She earned her MD degree in 2020 and went on to complete her residency training in Family Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit in 2023.

After residency, and prior to coming to Kalamazoo, Dr. Sundaresan completed a one-year fellowship in Reproductive Health at the University of Michigan. She is board certified in family medicine and a member of the American Academy of HIV Medicine; the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology; the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians, and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.

Dr. Sundaresan is also certified as a Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider. She is also certified as a HIV Specialist with the American Academy of HIV Medicine.

Additionally, she is the author of several research publications.
