Nancy Bjorklund, EdD, MPA, has been named the medical school’s assistant dean for Global and Continuing Education.

Dr. Bjorklund has served as WMed’s director of Continuing Education since October 2019. On September 1, Dr. Bjorklund was named the medical school’s assistant dean for Global and Continuing Education. She will lead the medical school’s global education program and activities. She also serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Medical Education. 

Under her leadership, the department of Continuing Education recently received Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education until July 2026. Joint Accreditation establishes the standards for education providers to deliver continuing education planned by the healthcare team for the healthcare team. WMed first earned accreditation in 2018 and is one of fewer than 150 organizations that hold this accreditation.  

Dr. Bjorklund received her Doctor of Education (EdD) degree in Global Education in 2018 from the University of Southern California. She received her MPA in 2014 from the University of Montana and her bachelor’s degree in International Studies in 1996 from Hamline University. She has been active in several professional associations, including serving for two years as the State of Montana Chair for the American Council on Education (ACE) Women’s Network, demonstrating leadership in and a commitment to the advancement of women in higher education. 

An innovative scholar in her field, Dr. Bjorklund has presented and published on measuring and assessing higher education internationalization. She also boasts significant budgeting experience, having previously served as the Director of Budget, Finance, and Personnel for the Global Engagement Office at the University of Montana. Prior to joining WMed, Dr. Bjorklund taught at Western Michigan University’s Global and International Studies program and the Master of Public Administration program.
