Biosketch

Carl Marfurt, PhD, received his BS in Biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, New Jersey, and his doctoral degree in Anatomy from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He spent four years as a faculty member at The Penn State Milton Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pennsylvania, before joining the faculty of Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), Gary, Indiana, where he reached the rank of tenured Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology.

Dr. Marfurt has over 35 years of experience teaching Medical Neuroscience to first- and second-year medical students on both the IUSM-Northwest and IUSM-South Bend campuses. He has received 27 excellence in teaching awards, held numerous leadership roles in curriculum development, and has over 25 years of experience with PBL and TBL. He has maintained an active research program on corneal innervation, was funded continuously for 16 years by the NIH, and published 47 research papers and book chapters. He is passionate about teaching and looks forward to teaching Neuroscience at the medical school level for years to come.
