MD-MBA Program

WMed and Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business offer a five-year program leading to the MD degree and the MBA degree with a concentration in healthcare.

Prerequisite Requirements

Applicants for the MD – MBA dual degree program must meet all admissions requirements and standards of the medical school for the MD degree, and all admissions requirements and standards of the WMU Haworth College of Business for the MBA degree.

Applicants must fulfill the prerequisite course requirements for the MD degree and also for the MBA degree. The business core prerequisite course requirements may be waived for students who have a bachelor’s degree in business administration or have completed relevant course work. These courses are available as online courses through WMU and if necessary may be taken as an undergraduate in the year before matriculation to the MD – MBA dual degree program. It is not possible to complete these prerequisite courses while enrolled in the MD degree program. 

Business Core Prerequisite Courses (or equivalent)

Accountancy ACTY 6010 3 credits
Corporate Finance FIN 6020 3 credits
Basic Economic Analysis ECON 6010 3 credits
Legal, Regulatory, and Political Aspects of Business LAW 6040 3 credits

In addition, all MD – MBA dual degree students must demonstrate achievement through prior coursework or experience for computer literacy, statistics, quantitative methods, and written communication skills. Prior academic and work experience will be evaluated for these requirements. 

Application

Applicants for the MD – MBA dual degree program may apply at the time of their initial application to WMed, or may apply after matriculation to WMed. Only the MCAT is necessary for application to the program; it is not necessary to take the GMAT or GRE.

Cost

Students are responsible for tuition and fees for both degree programs. Following the recommended five-year curriculum, medical school tuition is paid in Years 1, 2, 3 and 5. WMU Haworth College of Business tuition and fees are paid in Year 4 (for 24 credits of required courses and 3 credits of electives) and in Year 5 (for 3 credits for BUS 6990).

Graduation

Students who successfully complete all of the requirements for both the MD and MBA degrees participate in graduation ceremonies of the medical school for the MD degree, and WMU Haworth College of Business for the MBA degree.
