MD-MBA Program

WMed and Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business offer a five-year program leading to an MD-MBA dual degree.

Prerequisite Requirements

Applicants for the MD-MBA dual degree program must meet all admissions requirements and standards of the medical school for the MD degree, and all admissions requirements and standards of the WMU Haworth College of Business for the MBA degree.

Applicants must fulfill the prerequisite recommended courses for the MD program and the prerequisite required courses for the MBA degree. The MBA core prerequisite courses (or equivalent) are:

  • Accountancy
  • Corporate Finance
  • Basic Economic Analysis
  • Data Economic Foundations

The MBA core prerequisite course requirements may be waived for students who have a bachelor’s degree in business administration or have completed relevant course work. These courses are available as online courses through Coursera and can be completed while enrolled in the MD degree program. Please contact WMU’s MBA Program office for specific courses.

Application

Applicants for the MD-MBA dual degree program may apply at the time of their initial application to WMed or after matriculation to WMed. Only the MCAT is necessary for application to the program; it is not necessary to take the GMAT or GRE. The MBA program uses a rolling admissions process. Students can apply any time throughout the year and be admitted up until two weeks prior to any semester start. Cost

Students are responsible for tuition and fees for both degree programs. Following the recommended five-year curriculum, medical school tuition is paid in Years 1, 2, 3 and 5. WMU Haworth College of Business tuition and fees are paid in Year 4 for 24 credits of required courses.

Graduation

Students who successfully complete all requirements for both the MD and MBA degrees may participate in graduation ceremonies of the medical school for the MD degree, and WMU Haworth College of Business for the MBA degree.
