Applicant and Interview Process

To protect the health of everyone involved – applicants, residents, faculty and staff -  our residency interviews for the 2022 Match will be conducted virtually. 

All applications are accepted in ERAS only. We will begin reviewing applications on September 29 when ERAS opens. You are encouraged to complete your ERAS application by September 29. Applicants invited to interview will receive invitations from our residency program coordinator through ERAS.

Completed applications are reviewed by our recruitment committee for interview selection and MUST include the following items:

  • ERAS application
  • Medical school transcript
  • USMLE score reports
    • Step 1 required by September 29
    • Step 2 required before the March 2, 2022, ERAS Rank List Certification deadline
  • MSPE
  • Three letters of recommendation
    • AOA/CORD eSLOR and narrative are both accepted, eSLOR is encouraged. Follow this link for more information.

We require only three letters of recommendation, so we strongly encourage you to submit our supplemental form (see link to form below). Your completed form will be included in our review of your application prior to offering interviews. Virtual Events

Open House

Join us for our Virtual Open House on Monday, October 11! Learn about our residency and life in Kalamazoo, and ask questions of our program leadership and our residents. Open Houses will be conducted virtually on Microsoft Teams beginning at 6:00 p.m. EDT. From the Scrub Sink

Education at the scrub sink before cases is a surgical tradition. Join us for this interactive event on Wednesday, October 27 beginning at 6:00 pm EDT! "From the Scrub Sink” will include a case presentation with department chair Dr. Keith Kenter, Hip Arthroplasty Point/Counterpoint with faculty and Hanson Alumni members Dr. Nicholas Miladore and Dr. Christopher Betzle, and X-ray conference with Dr. George Borrelli, PGY-3.
