Biosketch

Michael J. Matthews is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine with a specialization in sports medicine. He completed his undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Cincinnati in 2014. He then obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2019. Michael completed a rotating internship at St. Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie, Florida, before starting his internal medicine residency at Kettering Health Dayton (formerly Grandview Medical Center) in Dayton, Ohio, in June 2020. In June 2023, he completed his internal medicine residency and started a sports medicine fellowship at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker School of Medicine. Michael has also been involved in a variety of research projects, including the aerospace medicine clerkship at NASA Johnson Space Center in April 2023 where he helped establish osteopathic manipulative treatment protocols for musculoskeletal complaints of astronauts aboard the ISS. Additionally, he has a passion for education, research, and sports medicine. He has held various leadership positions throughout his training including Chief Resident 2022-2023 and has received several awards for his academic and extracurricular accomplishments including the A.T. Spirit of Osteopathy Award. Michael has also published research in multiple peer-reviewed journals and presented his findings at numerous regional, national, and international conferences.
