MD-MedE

WMed offers a five year program leading to both an MD and an MS in Medical Engineering. Pursuing this dual degree provides training and a focus for those interested in creating new medical devices, diagnostic technologies, treatments, and/or processes. Our focus is to develop professionals and create technologies to improve healthcare. You will have personal attention, access to highly accomplished faculty, flexibility to explore your interests, and the support you need to achieve and grow. The integration of classroom and clinical exposure will prepare you for a career in engineering and healthcare

Prerequisite Requirements

Applicants are encouraged to have a background in a hard science discipline or an area of engineering.

Application

Applicants for the MD-MedE program may apply for the dual-degree program throughout the first year of their medical school curriculum.

Program and Courses

Dual-degree students dive into the Medical Engineering curriculum and thesis following the third year of medical school. This additional year is focused on the intersection of medicine and engineering. When returning to complete the final year of the medical degree curriculum, students are also finalizing and defending their Medical Engineering Thesis. Dual MD-MedE students spend a total of five years enrolled at WMed. The integration of classroom and clinical exposure will prepare you for a career in engineering and healthcare.

Cost

Students are eligible for scholarship assistance, loans, and financial advising through the Financial Aid Office.
