Biosketch

Salman Abdul Majeed, DO, is a resident physician in the Psychiatry Residency Program at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. He obtained his medical degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DMUCOM). A Gates Millennium Scholar, Dr. Abdul Majeed's passion for community and global service guided his work before and during medical training. He was recognized by the Foreign Minister of Somaliland, Edna Adan Ismail, for his relief work of medical emergency and trauma care, and assisting with the creation of a novel grassroots PTSD training program. He is currently involved in establishing the first mental health clinic in Hargeisa, Somaliland and serves as medical advisor for an orphanage outside Accra, Ghana. Locally, Dr. Abdul Majeed volunteers as a youth mentor and works with ISK to provide community-and-family-based therapy designed for at-risk youth and those in the juvenile system, and their families. His clinical and research interests include child and adolescent populations, family-based therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, preventive psychiatric counseling, school based early intervention and resilience programs, and global health. His nonclinical interests include motorcycle therapy, standup comedy, and wing chun kung fu.
