Applicant and Interview Process

For the 2023-2024 interview season, we will conduct virtual interviews to ensure the greatest safety and access for all applicants. Our interviews will be held from mid-October through mid-January via the Zoom platform. We will continue our long tradition of holistically reviewing each application, including collecting and reviewing data from applicants’ supplemental ERAS applications. Completion of the standard MyERAS application is a requirement; completion of the supplemental ERAS application is optional.

We participate in the National Residency Matching Program, and we accept applications and documents through ERAS. You should submit the following documents via ERAS for consideration:

  • USMLE score reports or COMLEX score reports
  • Three letters of recommendation (minimum)
  • Personal statement
  • ERAS application form
  • Dean’s Letter/Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • An optional statement detailing your specific interest in our program may be included as an addendum to your personal statement.

What do we look for in an applicant?

  • Applicants who passed the USMLE or COMLEX exams on the first attempt.
  • Strong letters of recommendation.
  • Solid academic performance in medical school.
  • For international graduates, we prefer candidates who have graduated within the past three years. Occasionally, we consider an applicant who graduated more than three years ago, if they have been practicing pediatrics or conducting medical research. We recommend U.S. clinical experience and we sponsor J1 visas. If medical education was taught in a language other than English, successful completion of a designated English proficiency test is required by the State of Michigan to obtain a medical license. 

Applicants selected for an interview will be notified via the email provided in ERAS on a rolling basis, beginning October 11, 2023, as our Interview Selection Team completes holistic reviews of applications. Due to the large number of applications received, we cannot extend interviews to everyone. In fairness to all applicants, we do not prescreen or offer any feedback with regards to applications.

Applications will be accepted until December 1, 2023.  Those selected for an interview will be notified via email by January 15, 2024.
